The best way to maintain a healthy weight is to combine a healthy, well-balanced calorie-controlled diet with regular exercise.

When you visit us for your first consultation we will work with you to create an exercise plan that's right for you. If you're very overweight, have health problems or haven't exercised for a long time, you should always talk to us, or your GP, before beginning any kind of exercise programme.

In general, it's best to start with gentle, regular exercise such as taking a brisk walk or going for a swim and you should aim to do this for at least 30 minutes, 5-7 days a week.

Top Tips

Exercise doesn't have to mean going to the gym or taking part in a sport, choose something you enjoy doing whether that's ballroom dancing, taking your dog for a walk or going swimming with the kids.

Simple tasks such as doing the housework or gardening counts as exercise and can help you to burn calories so try to keep as active as possible. Small changes such as walking to the next bus stop or taking the stairs instead of the lift will all help you to lose weight and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Ask a friend or family member to come with you - whether you're going for a walk or joining a new exercise class - the more enjoyable exercise is the more likely you'll stick to it!
